Overview

  • HTML is the primary language used for creating and structuring web content. It is designed to be flexible, versatile, and powerful in many aspects. One of the key features of HTML is the inclusion of symbols, also known as - HTML5 symbols - or - HTML5 entities. These symbols are special characters or codes that are used in documents to represent specific characters, objects, or actions that are not typically included in the standard character set of the language. Examples of HTML5 symbols include arrows, mathematical operators, and various other special characters. These symbols are often used to enhance the visual appearance or functionality of web content and can be easily inserted into HTML documents.

As mentioned above, HTML5 symbols are useful for many reasons. First, they can be used to represent characters or objects that are not part of the standard language, such as arrows or mathematical symbols. This allows web designers and developers to create more complex and sophisticated content without having to use images or other external files. Second, HTML5 symbols are supported by most modern browsers and devices and can be used in web content that is viewed on a wide range of platforms and devices. To use HTML5 symbols in an online or offline document, you simply need to include the appropriate code within the document's text. For example, to insert the symbol for a right-pointing arrow, you would use the code "→" within the text. This code would be automatically converted into the corresponding symbol when the document is rendered in a browser.

Overall, HTML5 symbols are useful and powerful features of the HTML5 standard and can be easily incorporated into documents to enhance their appearance and functionality. By using these symbols, web designers and developers can create more engaging and interactive web pages that provide a better experience for the users. This addon helps you find HTML5 symbols easily via your browser toolbar pop-up. Please read the below FAQ items to get more information about this addon.

Frequently Asked Questions

  • 1. What is Symbol Finder?

Symbol Finder is a simple and multi-browser addon which helps you find and copy any desired HTML5 symbol from toolbar popup UI. Simply open the UI and click on the desired category at the top. Alternatively, use the default buttons to choose a different category (please click on the small triangle button at the top left corner to see the default buttons). Or, if you would like, type in a search keyword to see matched symbols. To copy a symbol, please click on the individual icons to see details at the bottom of the UI and then copy the icon to the clipboard. There are more than 65000 icons available to choose from. Please note that within the search bar, as you type a word, icons will appear on the fly (fuzzy search).

  • 2. What is an HTML5 symbol?

HTML symbol entities are characters that are reserved in HTML and have special meaning. For example, ampersand "&" is used to denote the start of an HTML entity. These characters can be difficult to use in HTML because they are reserved for special purposes. To use these characters in HTML, you can use HTML symbol entities to represent them instead. For example, the less than sign can be represented in HTML as "<" and the ampersand can be represented as "&". This allows you to use these special characters in your HTML without causing any issues.

  • 3. How can I download the source code for Symbol Finder?

To download the source code for this extension from Chrome Web Store, it is recommended to use Extension Source Downloader. With this addon, you can download the source code as a ZIP or CRX format to your machine. If you want to download the source code from the Firefox addons store, please open the firefox download link (if available) in the Firefox browser and then right-click on the - Add to Firefox - button and select - Save Link As... - item. Choose the destination folder on your machine and then save the file in XPI format. You can then rename the XPI format to a RAR or ZIP file. Therefore, downloading the source code from the official web stores is the best option as it always gives you the latest version of the addon.

  • 4. How to work with Symbol Finder addon?

After you add the addon to your browser, please click on the toolbar icon to open the popup UI. Default icons are - arrows - which is shown when you first open the UI. Click on the desired category at the top to see related icons. There is also a triangle button to see all default buttons next to the input field. To see all the available icons, press the find button without typing any keyword, or click on the drop-down list and then select - all - items from the list. To copy an icon, please click on the individual icons within the UI. • 5. How can I copy a symbol to the clipboard?

To copy icons, simply click on any icon within the toolbar popup UI; once clicked, the icon will be copied to the clipboard automatically. Alternatively, you can select any icon and then press Ctrl+C on your keyboard or copy with your mouse right-click.

  • 7. Why I cannot find certain symbols with the search feature?

Unfortunately, not all the HTML symbols have a name, therefore it is not possible to find all the symbols with a search keyword. Sometimes you need to scroll through all symbols to find the desired icon.

  • 8. Why some symbols are not rendered correctly in the UI?

In some OS or browsers, some necessary fonts are not installed. HTML5 symbols need certain fonts to be rendered correctly. Therefore, if you cannot see an icon(s), this issue is from the OS level and nothing is wrong in the addon.
