Frequently Asked Questions
1. What is App for Translate™?
This addon just makes it easy to access Translate website with just one click. Simply click on the toolbar button to open Translate page in a simple and detached popup window. Once you resize the popup, it will be stored in the memory and next time opens the window with the new size. There is also an option to invert the colors for the UI, in case you want to operate with this addon at night time. Please read the following FAQ items to get more info about his addon.
2. Why App for Translate™ is considered a lite addon?
App for Translate™ is designed to operate similar to Chrome Apps. In other words, it opens in a simple and stand-alone popup window (as opposed to the toolbar-popup or sidebar), and once closed, completely clears-off and will not have any further background activities. Having this behavior, it is considered a very lite Addon and does not add any additional burden to your browser. Moreover, the popup has a built-in "Always-On-Top" feature which makes the window to remain always on top of other windows, enables you to do multi-tasking.
3. What tools are available within the popup window?
When you open the popup, you will see a toolbar with 5 buttons at the right corner. Toolbar buttons are self-explanatory and if you hover over any of them, a title shows up with a short description. Note, after few seconds the toolbar will disappear by itself. But when you move the mouse to the right-side area, it will appear again.
4. Is there an option to make the screen dark at night time?
Yes, within the toolbar, there is a button to invert colors on the screen. If you click on this button all the white colors will be inverted to black. Not just the white colors, but all the images will be inverted as well (which may degrade the aesthetic aspect for images).
5. Can I have more than one detached panel (with Translate UI rendered in)?
No, you can only have one detached window. Every time you click on the toolbar button, the window will be focused, if it is open. If not, it opens a new window. Moreover, once you click on the detached button, the current popup window will be closed and a new tab will be open with the Translate page.
6. Does Translate App synchronizes among all my devices?
Yes, Translate App is automatically synchronizes among all your devices where translate[dot]com is open.
7. Is this addon available for mobile devices?
No currently it is only released for desktop browsers. In fact, in mobile devices, it is easier to use the website itself rather than using a separate app.
8. When I click the toolbar button, is there an option to open Translate page in a new tab rather than a small popup window?
No, currently there is no option to open translator in a new tab by clicking on the toolbar button. In future, there might be an option to add this feature, however, the purpose of this addon is to render translator in a simple and detached UI.
9. Is there any keyboard shortcut to enhance opening the UI?
Unfortunately not, but in future versions there will be a shortcut key associated with this feature to open the translator UI.
10. How do I store source and target languages?
In order to store source and target languages, once you select these two within the UI, please translate at least one word (or sentence). This way source and target languages will be stores in the browser cookie for next time usage. Please remember, if you clean up the browser history, all the settings will be cleared as well. So, please keep this in mind when working with this addon.
