1. What is Audio Recorder?
Audio Recorder is a lite multi-browser addon that helps you record audio from the computer microphone. To work with this addon, please click on the toolbar button (blue record icon). Once the audio recorder UI appears, please click on the - Start Microphone - button on the top left corner. The app will ask you to permit the microphone access. Once you give access, the addon is ready for recording audio. Please press on the - Start Recording - button. Once you are done with the recording, please press on the - Stop Recording - button. The link to download the recorded audios will be added at the bottom of the UI. Click on the download link to download the audio to your computer. Please note that the audio will be downloaded to the default download location in your browser.
2. What buttons are available in the Audio Recorder app?
There are few buttons available in Audio Recorder UI. From left to right, the first button is - Start Microphone. This button is for initiating the application and starting the microphone. Once all the permissions are given, you can press on the third button from left (Start Recording) to start recording the audio. The fourth button is to stop and save the recorded audio. Once this button is pressed (Stop Recording), a link to a downloadable media will be created at the button of the UI (below the audio player section). Please press on this link to download the audio. As mentioned above, the media will be downloaded to the default download location in your browser. Stop Microphone - is the second button in the UI. As the icon indicates, this button is used to turning off the microphone (stop the audio stream and access). Once this button is pressed, Start and Stop recording buttons will be disabled and you need to press on the - Start Microphone - button to work with this app again. From left to right, the third button (Reload UI) is for reloading the - Audio Recorder - UI. Please note that reloading the interface, will remove all the download links and restores the app to the default settings. Open in Tab - is the fifth button and is used to open the app UI in an active tab (within the main browser window). Some users prefer to have the app loaded in a - Tab - as opposed to a separate popup window. Please note that, once the app is opened in a tab, the current UI will be closed. 3. How can I download the source code for Audio Recorder?
To download the source code for this extension from Chrome Web Store, it is recommended to use Extension Source Downloader. With this addon, you can download the source code as a ZIP or CRX format to your machine. If you want to download the source code from the Firefox addons store, please open the firefox download link (if available) in the Firefox browser and then right-click on the - Add to Firefox - button and select - Save Link As... - item. Choose the destination folder on your machine and then save the file in XPI format. You can then rename the XPI format to a RAR or ZIP file. Some extensions may have a GitHub repo address, which you can use to download the source code as well. But, it may not be the latest version of the addon. Once you are done recording desired media, please press on the - Stop Microphone - button to turn off the microphone in your machine. Alternatively, you can close the UI to stop the microphone.
5. How can I download the recorded media?
Downloading the media is very easy. Simply press on the download link at the bottom of the UI to download desired media. The audio will be download to the default download location in your machine. To change the download location, please head to the settings page in your browser and change the default download location from there.
6. What is the format for the recorded media?
By default, recorded media is in - WEBM - format (.webm). In order to get more information about webm audio format, please visit this Wikipedia Page. If you want to change this format to a different one, please use third-party software. There are many apps for converting an audio format to another (i.e. WEBM to MP3). Moreover, many websites also offer this functionality. Just type - convert webm - keyword in Google, and see the available options to convert your audio. Please note that you need to first download the WEBM audio to your machine, and then convert it to the desired format with third-party software. Currently, there is no option to convert the audio format within the application.
7. Is this addon available for mobile devices as well?
Yes this addon is available for all browsers and platforms, including mobile browsers. Please check if your browser supports adding extensions in the mobile version.
8. Is there an options page available for this addon?
No, currently this addon has no options or settings to adjust. But in future versions, few settings for adjusting the audio quality will be added.
