    File Guard (Encryptor | Decryptor) is a browser add-on that help you easily secure your files with your browsers built-in crypto API. Simply add this addon to your browser and start using it without any additional plugins. This addon uses the new encryption API which is built-in to your browser (modern browsers only) by default. If you want to encrypt a file, please use the app to browser your file, then enter a password (2 times) and finally click on the encrypt button. The addon starts the encryption process and downloads the encrypted file to your machine automatically. Please do the same procedure for decryption.   • 2. How can I work with this add-on?

    As mentioned above, simply open the app UI, then drag & drop desired files in the designated areas (top left corner). You can also upload your file into the app via the file selector tool. Then set a password for file encryption (you need to enter the password two times). In order to start the encryption process, please press on the - Encrypt - button once. A loader shows you the encryption is ongoing. Once the operation is finished, the encrypted file will be downloaded to your machine in the default download location. Please note that, you need to keep your password in a safe place, otherwise, you wont be able to recover (decrypt) your files. For the decryption process, please proceed exactly like the encryption procedure, except you need to browse the encrypted file first. Once decryption is done, the file will be downloaded to your system automatically.

    This addon uses a JavaScript encryption API which is built in to all modern browsers (Firefox, Chrome and Opera). This API uses a modern crypto technique to secure your files with a password. With this API your browser does not need any extra plugins or softwares.

  • 4. Can I encrypt multiple files/folders with this addon?

    No, unfortunately this addon is only designed for encrypting a single file. If you have a folder with multiple files or folders in it, please first compress your files to a single ZIP file and then encrypt the ZIP file with this addon. Please note that, this addon can encrypt any file format.

  • 5. How do I turn the extension OFF?

    When app UI is closed, this addon is completely OFF and has no usage (RAM/CPU) at all. Alternatively, if you want to completely turn off the addon, please head to the extensions tab in your browser and then click on the disable button from there.

  • 6. Is this extension available for mobile firefox (Firefox for android)?

    Yes, this addon is available for all browsers and platforms including mobile Firefox and Opera browsers.

  • 7. How can I reload the app UI?

    When you open the app UI, you will see a reload button on the top left corner. Please press on this button to reload the UI. Also note that, reloading the UI will terminate all the active encryption/decryption operations and reset the - File Guard - addon.

  • 8. How can I download the compressed file?

    Once an encryption/decryption is done, the file will be downloaded to your system automatically in the default download location. If you want to change the default location, please head to the settings tab in your browser and then change the download path from there.

  • 9. How can I change the download path?

    As mentioned above, in order to change the download path, please head to the settings tab in your browser and find the download section. Within this section, you can adjust the download path. This will globally change the download location for all downloads in your browser.

  • 10. What happens if I forget the encryption password?

    If you forget the encryption password, you will not be able to recover (decrypt) your file with this addon. Therefore, it is very important to keep your password in a safe place.

  • 11. How is the performance of this addon?

    According to our tests, this addon has a very good performance comparing to other encryption apps. In fact, the speed is almost the same as the native encryption applications. This is because the encryption API used by this addon is built-in to the browser and there is no need to add extra libraries or plugins for this purpose.
