Frequently Asked Questions

  • 1. What's new in this version?

See the version history page at the Firefox add-ons site for details about any update.

  • 2. There is an image on a page, but it is hard to find its URL. How can I perform reverse search on this image?

In most cases, images are embedded as background images and hence it is not easy to find the actual URLs. This extension solves the problem by providing "Reverse Image Search (capture)" context menu option. Simply select the item and capture a portion of the screen. The captured image is automatically sent to image.google.com and after successful upload, a new page with the results of your search will appear.

  • 3. How can I download the source code for Capture Google™ Reverse Image Search?

To download the source code for this extension from Chrome Web Store, it is recommended to use Extension Source Downloader. With this addon, you can download the source code as a ZIP or CRX format to your machine. If you want to download the source code from the Firefox addons store, please open the firefox download link (if available) in the Firefox browser and then right-click on the - Add to Firefox - button and select - Save Link As... - item. Choose the destination folder on your machine and then save the file in XPI format. You can then rename the XPI format to a RAR or ZIP file. Some extensions may have a GitHub repo address, which you can use to download the source code as well. But, it may not be the latest version of the addon. Therefore, downloading the source code from the official web stores is the best option as it always gives you the latest version of the addon.

  • 4. How does the extension perform reverse searches?

This extension is actually a wrapper to the powerful image.google.com reverse search engine.

  • 5. Can I use a different reverse image search other than (image.google.com)?

Yes, there is another extension to perform reverse search using TinEye engine, you can find this project here.

  • 6. What can I do if image is taken from a secure page and it is location based?

This extension is based on my Easy Screenshot extension. It captures the selected area with your DPI resolution in PNG format and send the data to image.google.com in a blob format. Note that links are directly sent to Google server hence if an image is location based you need to use capturing tool instead of sending the link. To do so you need to place your mouse outside the image area so that the context menu changes to "Reverse Image Search (capture)". Now select a proper region around the actual image and wait for the extension to upload the data to Google.
