1. What is Image to Text?

Image to Text is a multi-browser add-on to help users generate a related caption for any arbitrary image. This addon uses artificial intelligence to infer the caption. Please wait for the addon to load completely, then open any local image from your system and then press the start button. Wait for a few seconds for the app to infer the cation, the result will be rendered at the bottom section. To be able to accomplish this task, the addon uses several technologies. 2. How can I work with this addon?

Once you install the addon, please press the toolbar button to open the interface. Wait for the app to load completely, then press the - Choose File - button at the top to choose an image from your machine. Once the image is loaded into the app, press the start button and wait to see the inferred caption at the bottom section. Currently, this app does not have any options or settings to adjust. It uses AI technology and a pre-trained model to infer the cation. Please note that the extension is still in beta and may not produce a correct result for all images. Moreover, depending on your machine, since the trained data is large, it might slow down your browser while being used.

3. How can I download the source code for Image to Text (Using AI)?

To download the source code for this extension from Chrome Web Store, it is recommended to use Extension Source Downloader. With this addon, you can download the source code as a ZIP or CRX format to your machine. If you want to download the source code from the Firefox addons store, please open the firefox download link (if available) in the Firefox browser and then right-click on the - Add to Firefox - button and select - Save Link As... - item. Choose the destination folder on your machine and then save the file in XPI format. You can then rename the XPI format to a RAR or ZIP file. Some extensions may have a GitHub repo address, which you can use to download the source code as well. But, it may not be the latest version of the addon. Therefore, downloading the source code from the official web stores is the best option as it always gives you the latest version of the addon.

4. How does the Image to Text addon work?

As mentioned above this app uses several different technologies to be able to perform the image-to-text function. First, it uses Transformers.js which is a machine-learning project for the web. Please read this page to get more info about this new AI project. Next, the GP2 Image Captioning project is used to be able to infer a related caption for an arbitrary image. Please read more info about this project here. In the end, several trained model data are imported into the AI engine to be able to perform the task. Model data and config files are located here. The complete package is around 250MB and fully runs on JavaScript in your web browser.

5. Can I generate a caption for any image with this addon?

Yes, according to our tests, you can generate captions for any image with this addon. But please note that since this technology is rather new and a work in progress, the results might not be very accurate for all images. Moreover, you may see sudden crashes or freezes during the inferring process.

6. How can I refresh/reload the app?

Within the app interface at the bottom right corner, there is a reload button. To refresh or reload the app, please press this button once. Wait for the app to load completely, then start using it. Depending on your machine, the loading duration may take up to a few seconds to a minute.

7. How to access the settings page?

As mentioned above, currently there are no settings or options for this addon.
