1. What is Ping Blocker?
This addon helps you prevent websites from tracking you by blocking ping requests. Ping requests can be generated via three methods on any website. The most famous one is the navigator.sendBeacon() API. Another method is to use the - ping - attribute for anchor elements. The last method is via atag with a - report-to - URL. This addon, when enabled, can successfully block all ping requests. Toolbar icon changes color when you click on it. The red color is when the addon is active and the grey color is for the inactive state. Within the add-on options page, there are several settings to adjust. You can choose which type of ping request to block via the first three options. Next, there is a console log error checkbox (to log blocked URLs to the browsers console). The last setting is for adding domains to be whitelisted. All entries should be comma-separated.
2. How can I work with this addon?
Working with this addon is very easy. Simply add it to your browser and start surfing the web. By default the addon is active, if you want to deactivate the addon, please press the toolbar button once. As you browse the internet, the addon catches ping requests and block them immediately. Badge icon text shows the number of blocked items within a website. You can adjust the type of the blocked ping method via the options page. Moreover, if you want to disable ping blocking for a website, please add the domain to the whitelist area on the options page. For multiple domains please add them comma separates. Please note that, when you enter a URL in the whitelist area, it will be converted to domain automatically.
3. How can I disable the addon?
To disable the addon, please press on the toolbar button once. When the addon is inactive, the toolbar icon color will turn to light grey. Pressing on the toolbar icon again will change the addon state to active (with red color). If you want to permanently disable the addon, please head to the extensions page in your browser and then click on the disable button next to the extensions name.
4. Is there a settings page available for this addon?
Yes, as mentioned above, this addon has a separate options page with few settings. There is also a whitelisting table which you can add domains to be whitelisted from the ping blocker.
5. Can I add custom ping rules (other than the above three methods)?
No, this addon only blocks the above-mentioned ping methods. Currently, there is no option to customize how the ping blocker works.
