  • 1. What is Privacy Tweaks?

Privacy Tweaks is a lite and multi-browser addon that help you improve your privacy while browsing by using seven different techniques. Simply open toolbar popup UI and mark a desired tweak. Please note that, only few tweaks are selected by default. Also, please keep in mind that, depending on your browser and platform, this addon might behave differently. • 2. What tweaks are available in Privacy Tweaks addon?

Currently there are seven different tweaks available for this addon. The first tweak is for blocking annoying contents (i.e. intrusive banners). These contents are the main reasons that cause browsing to slow-down and also a source for leaking privacy due running redundant JavaScript files in your browser. Therefore, blocking these contents from loading could significantly enhances your privacy. Please note that, only "common" items are blocked with this addon (please use a separate addon if you want a full-feature blocker). The second tweak is related to canvas fingerprint blocker. Once you mark this item, your canvas fingerprint will be renewed every time you refresh a tab or a webpage. Tweak #3 is for blocking webrtc leakage. This option blocks webrtc for all websites no matter if you have them in the whitelist or not. Tweak #4 is for changing your timezone. Timezone could be used to reveal your location even if you have a VPN or proxy. Therefore, changing timezone could be a great help in protecting your privacy. Likewise, geolocation (tweak #5) is another source of privacy leakage. This tweak lets you set desired location (latitude & longitude) for your browser. Tweak #6 is for setting desired SOCKS5 host and port for your browser. This is useful if you want to change your IP address without using a VPN service. Tweak #7 is for blocking most common trackers, such as website analytics. This tweak is inactive by default.

  • 3. How can I download the source code for Privacy Tweaks?

To download the source code for this extension from Chrome Web Store, it is recommended to use Extension Source Downloader. With this addon, you can download the source code as a ZIP or CRX format to your machine. If you want to download the source code from the Firefox addons store, please open the firefox download link (if available) in the Firefox browser and then right-click on the - Add to Firefox - button and select - Save Link As... - item. Choose the destination folder on your machine and then save the file in XPI format. You can then rename the XPI format to a RAR or ZIP file. Some extensions may have a GitHub repo address, which you can use to download the source code as well. But, it may not be the latest version of the addon. Therefore, downloading the source code from the official web stores is the best option as it always gives you the latest version of the addon.

The last setting is for whitelisting a domain from all privacy tweaks (deactivates the addon for certain domains). There is a plus button next to item (d). Simply press on this button to whitelist the current tab (domain). Then, reload the tab to see the updated page. As mentioned above, webrtc is the only tweak which cannot be whitelisted. You need to unselect tweak #3 in order to deactivate webrtc. Whitelisted domains are comma separated.
