1. What is Text to Music?

Text to Music is a multi-browser add-on to help users generate music tracks from arbitrary text prompts (english only). It uses artificial intelligence to create the music. Please wait for the addon to load completely, then enter an English text prompt (top section) and press the start button. Wait for a few seconds (depending on your machine specs) for the app to create the music track, the resulting audio will be rendered at the bottom section. To be able to accomplish this task, the addon uses several technologies. Please read below to get more info about this extension.

2. How can I work with this addon?

Once you install the addon, please press the toolbar button to open the interface. Wait for the app to load completely, then enter an English text prompt (i.e. a country song with guitars and drums) at the top field. Next, choose the processing device (CPU or GPU). By default, CPU is chosen but you can change it to GPU if your browser supports webgpu. Please note that currently there is not much difference in terms of processing time between CPU and GPU because the webgpu engine is still under active development. After you enter the text prompt, please press the - Start - button and wait to see the audio track at the bottom section. Currently, there are three settings to adjust for this app. The first setting is the guidance scale which is related to the processing speed vs audio quality. The next setting is related to the audio track duration time which is from 1 to 30 seconds. The 30-second limit is due to browser limitations and will be enhanced in future versions. The last setting is related to AI creativity in generating the music track. You can play with these settings to get the desired result. This addon uses AI technology and a pre-trained model to perform the job. Please note that the extension is still in beta and may not produce a valid result for all text prompts. Moreover, depending on your machine, since the trained data is large, it might slow down your browser while being used.

3. How can I download the source code for Text to Music (Using AI)?

To download the source code for this extension from Chrome Web Store, it is recommended to use Extension Source Downloader. With this addon, you can download the source code as a ZIP or CRX format to your machine. If you want to download the source code from the Firefox addons store, please open the firefox download link (if available) in the Firefox browser and then right-click on the - Add to Firefox - button and select - Save Link As... - item. Choose the destination folder on your machine and then save the file in XPI format. You can then rename the XPI format to a RAR or ZIP file. Some extensions may have a GitHub repo address, which you can use to download the source code as well. But, it may not be the latest version of the addon. Therefore, downloading the source code from the official web stores is the best option as it always gives you the latest version of the addon.

4. How does the Text to Music addon work?

As mentioned above this app uses several different technologies to be able to perform the text-to-music function. First, it uses Transformers.js which is a machine-learning project for the web. Please read this page to get more info about this new AI project. Next, the MusicGen project is used to be able to create a music track from text input. Please read more info about this project here. In the end, several trained model data are imported into the AI engine to be able to perform the task. Model data and config files are located here. The complete package is around 480MB and fully runs on JavaScript in your web browser.

5. Can I generate a music track for any text prompt with this addon?

Yes, according to our tests, you can generate a music track for any English text prompt. But please note that since this technology is rather new and a work in progress, the results might not be very accurate for all prompts. Moreover, you may see sudden crashes or freezes during the process.

6. How can I refresh/reload the app?

Within the app interface at the top right corner, there is a reload button. To refresh or reload the app, please press this button once. Wait for the app to load completely, then start using it. Depending on your machine, the loading duration may take up to a few seconds to a minute.

7. How to access the settings page?

All the settings for this addon are located at the main interface (middle section). There is not a separate interface for settings or options.
