1. What is Video Recorder?
Video Recorder is a lite multi-browser addon that helps you record video and audio from the computer camera. In order to work with this addon, please click on the toolbar button (red record icon). Once the video recorder UI appears, please click on the - Start Camera - button on top left corner. The app will ask you to give permission for the camera and microphone access. Once you give access, the addon is ready for recording media. Please press on the - Start Recording - button. Once you are done with the recording, please press on the - Stop Recording - button. The link to download the recorded video will be added at the bottom of the UI. Click on the download link to download the video to your computer. Please note that the video will be downloaded to the default download location in your browser.
2. What buttons are available in Video Recorder app?
There are 7 buttons available in Video Recorder UI. From left to right, the first button is Start Camera. This button is for initiating the application and starting the camera and microphone. Once all the permissions are given, you can press on the second button from left (Start Recording) to start recording the video. Third button is for stop and saving the recorded video. Once this button is pressed (Stop Recording), a link to a downloadable media will be created at the button of the UI. Please press on this link to download the video. As mentioned above, the media will be downloaded to the default download location in your browser. Stop Camera - is the forth button. As the name suggests, this button is used to turning off the camera (stop video and audio access). Once this button is pressed, Start and Stop Recording buttons will be disabled and you need to press on the - Start Camera - button in order to work with this app again. Fifth button (Reload UI) is for reloading the Video Recorder UI. Please note that reloading the UI, will remove all the download links and restores the app back to the default settings. Open in Tab - is the sixth button and is used to open the app UI in an active tab (within the main browser window). Some users prefer to have the app loaded in a Tab as opposed to a separate popup window. Please note that, once the app is opened in a tab, the current UI will be closed. 3. How can I download the source code for Video Recorder?
To download the source code for this extension from Chrome Web Store, it is recommended to use Extension Source Downloader. With this addon, you can download the source code as a ZIP or CRX format to your machine. If you want to download the source code from the Firefox addons store, please open the firefox download link (if available) in the Firefox browser and then right-click on the - Add to Firefox - button and select - Save Link As... - item. Choose the destination folder on your machine and then save the file in XPI format. You can then rename the XPI format to a RAR or ZIP file. 5. How can I download the recorded media?
Downloading the media is very easy. Simply press on the download link at the bottom of the UI to download desired media. The video will be download to the default download location in your machine. In order to change the download location, please head to the settings page in your browser and change the default download location from there.
6. What is the format for the recorded media?
By default, recorded media is in - WEBM - format (.webm). In order to get more information about webm video format, please visit this Wikipedia Page. If you want to change this format to a different one, please use a third-party software. There are many apps for converting a video format to another. Moreover, many websites also offer this functionality. Just type - convert webm - keyword in Google, and see the available options to convert your video. Please note that, you need to first download the WEBM video to your machine, and then convert it to a desired format with third-party softwares. Currently there is no option to convert the video format within the application.
7. Is this addon available for mobile devices as well?
No, this addon is only available for desktop machines. All mobile devices have native applications to record video and audio, and there is no need for an extra application to record any media.
8. Is there an options page available for this addon?
No, currently this addon has no options or settings to adjust. But in future versions, few settings for adjusting the video and audio quality will be added.
